Chapter 20: The Word Mage

13 January 5555
[Florencis Forest]
[King Claude IV]

The soldiers readied their guards. While they have been trained against magic welding creatures, they knew the strange human that stood before them was of a much higher calibre.

"State your purpose scoundrel!" Blaine growled, while the troops took one step closer towards the mage and let out a groundshaking battle cry.

The king, asserted by the battle cry, regained his composure. "Mage, if it's the sceptre you are after, perhaps we could make a deal?" The soldiers were mortified, how could the king appear to have given up to quickly? Does he not want to avenge his subjects that were slain by this singlet-wearing scum?

The mysterious mage's neck tilted slightly to the left. "My my, I've heard rumours that you were a coward. After seeing you in person, I'm almost certain of it now. This is where you die you sick excuse of a sovereign!"

Wasting no time, Blaine dashed towards his enemy, unshealthing his broadsword with his right hand while reaching for some darts in his pouch with his left.

"Repel, scum!" The mage faced his palm towards him as Blaine was magically sent flying in the opposite direction of the mage, darts scattered over the floor from Blain e's pouch as he impaled his broadsword into the ground just before he crashes into his fellow men.

"You have pretty good reflexes Blaine, are you surprised as to why I know your-"

"KILL HIM!!" King Claude ordered before the mage could finish his sentence! Apart from two of the King's Royal guards armed with halberds, every soldier charged with their swords raised and their heart full of valor towards his king, ready to destroy the enemy before them with numbers.

"Fool!" Blaine thought to himself as he moved out of the way for his troops to attack. Although he felt that this was not the best course of action, he could not defy his king.

As the foot soldier closest to the mage was about to land a blow on the strange man, he could here a mutter from the mage's lip. "Blink."

The soldier's sword cut through nothing but air, the mage has disappeared. But how? Where was he?

"Above!!"

The mage was sitting on a bench, chewing on what looked like a leaf. "Careful boys, it wouldn't be very pretty if the darts that Mister Blaine scattered before were.. Explosives."

Chapter 19: My word!

13 January 5555
[Florencis Forest]
[King Claude IV]

(Nightfall)
The king and his trusty aide had made haste after sensing danger approaching them. The moon shone brightly amongst the night sky, as if guiding the sovereign out of danger.

A loud, bloodcurling cry was heard in the distant.
"My Leige! My Leige!"

A well-built knight staggered out from the trees, although the night had reduced the vision of the king and his army, everyone could evidently noticed the abnormal amount of blood that the knight was losing every step he took. His arms were dangling as if ready to fall off any moment.

"He is one of the Baetos Knights!" one of the soilder exclaimed. The "Baetos Knights" of Claude's battalion were famous for their high endurance and battle abilities.

"My Leige! Everyone is dead! Everyone is dead!" The knight coughed as he spoke, staggering slowly towards the army. A trail of blood could be seen.

"Explain yourself knight!" Blaine commanded.
"The recon.. The recon group was wiped out by-"
"Spears." came a voice from amongst the trees where the knight had previously emerged from.

Three long spears flew out from the darkness and hit the knight from behind, one at the back of his head and two going through his knees.

"DEFEND THE KING!!"

A frail looking man appeared from the darkness, he was dressed in an orange singlet, and a yellow pair of skinny trousers matched with sandals made of fur from an unknown creature. As he advanced towards King Claude, the army could notice that he was missing an eye and a ear from the right side, but however no injuries were present on this strange man.

"Identify yourself!" Blaine bellowed. The young King just sat on his carriage, too shocked to utter a word.

"My, My, even after seeing what I have done to the knights your empire is so proud of, do you still recognise what I am? Burn. Fools!" A gigantic ball of fire was formed above the man, and it flew towards the army.

"Seperate." muttered the man, and the gigantic fireball split into two smaller scorching orbs of fire and hit Claude's front soilders, sending them flying away in charred pieces. The entire army was taken aback by the sheer power of this man.

"Archers! Fire at will!" Claude finally commanded, however this command was improper and sudden as archers begun loading their arrows into their crossbows and they fired without a certain pattern.

The man raised his hands at the oncoming arrows and muttered yet another line. " Arrows, snap."

At this very moment, every single arrow that was fired towards the man snapped into two like twigs, even in midair.

"I know what he is! He is a Word-Mage!!" Screamt one of Claude's soilders.

Borders of Rubyworth Forest
[Zach McCarthy]

For the past four days Zach had been travelling with his new-found companion, the mercenary. Although his motives were unclear. The mercenary had been travelling with Zach without asking for any form of payment. The only information that Zach had on him was that his name was "Dhor".

"So Dhor, where are you headed to?"
"I'm looking for something Zach."

Zach assumed that Dhor was not ready to answer Zach, and therefore decided to not probe any further as they made their way towards Callistoria.

Chapter 18: Queer Mercenary

14 January 5555
Rubyworth Forest
[Zach McCarthy]

The snake on the man's tie hissed ferociously, the dragon has recovered from the Draco Mind Freeze spell that Zach has employed on it, it glared ferociously at dragonslayer, then at the man with the Axe.

The stranger's Axe had now transformed into a Halberd with a Skull at the other side of the weapon. Both men took one last look at each other as if attempting to convery a battle plan against their gigantic, scaled foe, Zach leapt onto his trusted horse and began charging up both his hands with his Cryokinesis (Ice Magic), although it might only last him for the next ten minutes, Zach hoped it would at least prove to be useful against the dragon. Paladin leapt towards the dragon, showing no signs on fear while the mecernary rushed towards the dragon with his Halberd, showing no signs of fear, ready to deliver a clean blow towards it's leg while the dragon was occupied with Zach.

The dragon bared its fangs and heat was gathered in it's mouth, it was preparing to fire a fireball toward's Zach! However before the dragon could expect it, Zach has already launched a gigantic ball of ice into the dragon's mouth, carefully estimating the size of the ball so that it would lodge directly into the dragon's fangs after being melted from the amount of heat gathered within the dragon's throat, the moment the Ice ball was being lodged into the beast's mouth, the man with the serpent tie swung his halberd toward's the dragon's left foreleg, crippling the huge monster causing a blood to splatter across the man and its surroundings while Zach had leapt off his horse for more airtime and has made a gigantic Ice hammer and slammed it hard on the side of the dragon's face, causing a few of the beast's teeth to fall out as it's teeth was already lodged into the Ice ball that Zach had created beforehand, it was a perfectly synchronised attack, the Dragon knocked itself against the walls of the cave again.

"Lets make a break for it now!" Zach said as he landed back on his horse and galloped for the exit. "Wait for me lad!" The mercenary said as he took out a handkercheif and walked over to the exit while wiping the bright red dragon's blood off his face, the serpent that has been used for his tie hissed in excitement. Giving off almost an eerie feeling.

Chapter 17: Serpent tie

14 January 5555
Rubyworth Forest
[Zach McCarthy]

It has been eleven days since Zach has been held captive by the cloaked man in one of Rubyworth Forest's many deserted cave, who revealed nothing about himself other than his extreme hatred for Dragonslayers, or perhaps it was only directed to Zach. Beind kept under close scrutiny of a fire-breathing dragon, Zach knew that if he was to attempt escape, it had better be a foolproof one. The cloaked man had exitted the cave for his daily hunt, usually bringing back scarce food just enough to keep the dragonslayer alive, perhaps he was waiting for his buddies to arrive before deciding to deal with Zach, or perhaps everything was already planned in an unfathomable was that Zach was not able to make heads or tails out of currently.

"The only hope I have now is that Paladin would be able to bring help, his nose is better than a guard dog's." Zach thought to himself, being chained on his left foot to a rock and being guarded by a dragon towering over him, he knew that he either needed a surprise attack, or the help of a strong ally to rescue him.

Suddenly, he heard the familiar sound of hooves. "Paladin!" he thought to himself in his head, showing a slight sign of excitement hoping the dragon would not notice. Perhaps help has indeed arrived. What followed soonafter was a loud bellow of the dragon, Zach's horse has been noticed!

The dragon got up on two legs and bared its fangs at the only exit, preparing for battle as if Paladin was actually a threat to him, wasting no time, Zach immediately started on the spell he had been waiting to use for the best week and a half, Zach let out a loud whistle and the dragon took a glance at him, it was enough for Zach to finally use his magic, the Draco Mind Freeze, blinding the mind's eye of the dragon and causing it to lose any sense of direction or smell. The dragon roared in confusion, banging its head on the side of the cave causing rubbles to fall.

Just then, Paladin leapt into the cave with a stranger that Zach has never seen before, a clean shaven, brown-eyes gentleman with short black hair in formal wear with a top hat was sitting on Zach's beloved horse. But what was the most queer about this gentle was that it appears that he has a serpent for a tie, a living, breathing, colourful serpent, likely poisonous.

"Who is this man Paladin?" Zach managed to mutter, the dragonslayer's stallion neighed and appeared to look rather proud of himself.

"Fear not lad! I am here to assist you! I am a mercenary." The gentleman smiled, and began to pull out an odd looking stick from his sleeve. It appears to be made of steel, but had strange carvings on it, it was nothing that the dragonslayer has ever seen in his life. The dragon was still struggling around in the ground in pain. The queer man with the serpent tie appeared to have pushed a few buttons on his stick and it transformed into a large axe. He then slammed it hard on the chain which has been binding Zach on the rock. Zach gave the man a smile, "Lets do this."

Chapter 16: First Hurdle

13 January 5555
[Florencis Forest]
[King Claude IV]

Second week of King Claude's travel in Florencis. After the king has ordered his battalion to split into three groups, one to search for food, one to recon the area before the king advances on his journey and one to accompany the king. All this of course was directed by Blaine while orders were merely given by King Claude

[Battalion one: Food hunters]

"This cannot be! This cannot be!" shouted one of the Battalion Colonel's guards as a he witnesses his Colonel being mauled to death by the abnormally large Florencian bears, having torn him and a few other comrades' bodies apart with their sharp fangs and claws.

"These three bears are insanely oversized!!" shouted another soilder as he dropped his weapons and started running aimlessly though the trees. Something strage was happening in the forest, and the squad was in trouble.

"Use the flare potion now!", without hesitation, the second-in-command immediately shot a flare potion into the sky, signalling the rest of the Empirian army that they are in trouble, before noticing a large shadow looming above him. It was one of the bears, before the commander could even ready a strike at the huge bear with his sword, it's gigantic claw sliced the commander into half, sending his upper body flying towards a tree. It appears that nature has decided to throw a tantrum on the Empirian army.

[Battalion Two: Elites (Mainly used to protect the king)]

"BATTALION ONE IS IN TROUBLE! BATTALION ONE IS IN TROUBLE!" shouted one of the messengers for Battalion Two.

"Darn Blaine, I thought you said everything is going to be all right!" growled King Claude.

"This cannot be! The Colonel in charge of them was fairly famalliar with the areas in Florencis, he could not have lead them into trouble!" Thought Blaine to himself as sweat streaked down his forehead, something terribly unexpected has happened.

"Baetos Knights, recon the area now!" Commanded Blaine. Without further ado, a squad in the battalion immediately got into their formation and charged towards the designated location to check out what is going on.

"I knew our trip was going all too smoothly, could this be the Megandale Giants?" asked Claude, who has calmed himself down a little.

"I do not know your majesty, we can only move forward now while waiting for the news." Replied Blaine, Claude's trusty advisor and mentor.

[INFORMATION ABOUT FLORENCIS]
Florencis Forest
Famous for: Elf-eating beasts

In contrast to Davesbury, exploring Florencis isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Florencis is rumoured to be home to vicious Florencian bears and wolves, the biggest threat to the Davesburrian Elves. If it wasn’t for the steadfast Empirian forest guards, the Davesburry would be a luxurious food haven for these monsters. Florencis forest has also become a deadly battlefield for the Empirians and Megandale Giants, where both parties are continuously fighting for the colonization of Davesbury and Florencis. The giants haven’t had any luck though.
